Search every table and field in a SQL Server Database Updated

As some of my blog posts are a little out of date, I thought I would spend some time updating the most popular ones. As I use this script on a regular basis and there was an error with the original posting, I thought I'd update it with a "corrected" version to get things started.

If you want to see the original script, you can refer to How to search every table and field in a SQL Server Database. This one's just fixed :)

As a stand alone script

Thanks for the code, running it now. One fix though, you've left in your testing (a double declaration of @SearchStr).

Hi, thanks for the code, however, the fix introduced a new error:

Msg 134, Level 15, State 1, Procedure SearchAllTables, Line 9 "The variable name '@SearchStr' has already been declared. Variable names must be unique within a query batch or stored procedure."

Oh, and it always returns the same result, whether I search for 'fdalfjasd' or 'something' or whatever. using SQLExpress, might that be causing this odd behavior?

Thanks Abel, I've been meaning to get around to fix that, I've put up two flavours, one which can be run on it's own without creating a stored procedure, the other is a re-usable stored procedure that once you've added to your db you can re-run anytime you want.

And just to tidy it up a bit you might want to move the 'DROP TABLE #Results' to just before the final 'END' statement on the SProc version. Otherwise the SProc will never delete the temp table when run.

I loved this technique which kept iteration going:
