Last.fm -Who? What? Where? When? Why?
I bumped into an old school friend Richard Jones a few years ago while in Southampton and he mentioned that he was working on a program that tracked what music users listened to and the idea was to offer suggestions as to what music the user may like. The program was called Audioscrobbler. When I got home I checked out his site and sure enough there it was. I then forgot about it.
A while later I was passed a link to a site that tracks the music you listen to in iTunes, Windows Media player and the like after mentioning that I wished I had some record of the stupid amounts of music I listen to, the link was to Last.fm, I downloaded the installer and off I went. It wasn't until a while later that I noticed the (originally small) link at the bottom of the page to Audioscrobbler.
Last.fm is cool, you can track all the music you listen to and build up an indepth chart of your favourite tracks, find new tracks from people with similar tastes and all sorts, it's well worth checking out, my profile can be found here.
I've not bothered trying to get it to work with my iPod at the moment but here are my chart breakdowns for you:
